*The Ambassador - Battle of the Rings 2024 & Jewelry for a Cause
The Ambassador Band is an abstract representation of the last male Northern White Rhino, Sudan, who died in Kenya in 2018 at the age of 45. It was a profound loss. Sudan left behind one daughter, Najin, and one granddaughter, Fatu, to live out their remaining days in functional extinction under the watch of their loving caretakers.
Rhinos, long regarded as mystical and exotic, are hunted for their horns, worth more than their weight in gold but composed of nothing more than keratin. They are massive, peaceful, herbivorous creatures. Sudan's existence and passing drew global attention, shedding light, even if for a brief moment, on the truth that extinction is happening before our own eyes.
This piece represents Sudan, the Ambassador, in form and texture. The gold is symbolic of the artificial value of the horn, imposed by human fantasy and greed. This piece was created as a lasting reminder of the profound impact of humankind on the extinction crisis and our obligation to respect and protect all species inhabiting Earth.
935 Argentium silver and 18k gold. Anticlastic form produced by hand. Texture, rivets, polished edges. Size 7.5. Engraved artist sig found inside the band.
